Discover the history of Maldon Masonic Hall and 250 years of Freemasonry in Essex

Maldon Masonic Hall will open its doors to the public for a special day of guided tours and local history. Visitors can explore this historic building with one of the hall’s guides, who will share information and answer questions about its past. Admission to the daytime open day is free.

Refreshments will be available to purchase, with the money raised going to charity.

The hall will reopen at 6.30pm for a presentation by local historian Stephen Nunn, exploring 250 years of Freemasonry in Essex, with a particular focus on Maldon.

The presentation is open to everyone, including non-Masons, and will be followed by a fish and chip supper in the dining room. The bar will also be open.

Enjoy a guided Cheese and Wine Tasting Evening at The Canary Shed, bringing together eight carefully selected wines and four artisan cheeses.

Justin from Waples Wines will lead guests through each wine, drawing on more than 38 years of experience.

Throughout the evening, he will explore the origins and tasting notes of the wines, along with the reasons each one has been matched with its accompanying cheese.

The tasting showcases two local businesses. Waples Wines has curated the selection for its quality, character and flavour, while the artisan cheeses have been sourced and provided by The Butchers Deli.

Discover How a Search for Better Chocolate Became a Maldon Family Business

Join the Woman’s Own Club for a talk about TEMPRD, a family-run Maldon company creating rich, chunky slabs of chocolate in a wide variety of flavours.

TEMPRD began when its founders were unable to find the kind of chocolate they wanted to eat or give as a gift—something luxurious, generously sized and filled with an exciting mixture of flavours. Having already left the rat race to work together, they decided to make it themselves.

The talk will explore the story behind the company and its ethical approach, including the use of sustainably sourced cocoa and its work towards plastic-free packaging.

The event will be held at St Barnabas Family Centre in Mayland. Admission is free, and non-members are warmly invited to attend.

Enjoy a Frightfully Fun Day of Halloween Activities for the family.

Only be afraid of having too much fun when spooky goings-on take over the Museum of Power this Halloween.

Families can enjoy arts and crafts, ghost and pumpkin hunts and a variety of other spooky activities throughout the day.

There will also be stalls selling Halloween goodies and an opportunity to stir the witch’s cauldron while listening to her stories, but be prepared for some fun and spooky surprises along the way.

With plenty happening between 10am and 4pm, this promises to be an entertaining Halloween day out for children and adults alike.

This autumn half term we have a special Family Nature Day focusing on our woodland areas, so if you fancy an alternative to endless Halloween pumpkins, come and join our Wildlife Team for a drop-in day of woodland-themed activities.

Included within the standard admission price, you can enjoy activities including a mini-beast safari, leaf trail, leaf and bark rubbings, autumn/woodland themed craft activities, fungi hunting, learning about hornets, and even dissecting some owl pellets to find out what our birds of prey have been having for their dinner.

Children can enjoy a lively Halloween celebration at Lets Go Bonkers in Burnham-on-Crouch.

Taking place across Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1st November, the fair will feature a variety of stalls from local crafters. Visitors can browse handmade items, unique gifts and homeware while enjoying a friendly community event.

There will also be a raffle with prizes, along with refreshments including tea, coffee and homemade cakes. Everyone is welcome, and all proceeds will go to local charities.

The fair is organised by South Woodham Ferrers Inner Wheel in conjunction with South Woodham Ferrers Town Council.

Bigger, Scarier and Spookier Than Ever.

The Joyce Family Big Halloween Display returns to Burnham-on-Crouch on Saturday 31st October 2026, promising to be bigger, scarier and spookier than ever.

Visitors of all ages can explore amazing spooky scenery, special animatronics and live actors, with plenty of photo opportunities along the way. Although there will be plenty of scares, the display is family-friendly and suitable for adults and children of all ages.

The annual event continues its tradition of supporting local charities, with the 2026 display raising money for Farleigh Hospice. Cash donations can be made on the night using the official Farleigh Hospice collection buckets, or donations can be made online through JustGiving.

Last year, visitors helped the event raise an impressive £1,001.07 for Farleigh Hospice.
