Maylwatch December 2016
Usually there’s not a lot to get excited about when you are pushing a trolley sideways when leaving a Supermarket but on this occasion the task was joyfully interrupted by the sight and sound of the biggest V formation of geese I’ve seen here in Essex, the sound was tingling too. A smaller V followed then two more larger lines. Again a case of right place right time.
I went to a U3A meeting at The Jacks Centre recently where there was a talk given on Village Signs. I have been collecting photos of them myself, and some are very beautiful and in pictures which depict the history of the Town’s or Villages.
Our own Maylands one is a great example. Stow Marie’s has WWI aeroplane, the church and an Oystercatcher. Bradwell includes 2 Brent Geese, Abberton a Swan, Purleigh a Bittern. Some are really beautifully done and are worth a closer look. Asheldham is a recent one and has the church, water tower, steam engine, a Rook and the ancient settlement depicted on it.
Explore our lovely Villages and look out for these interesting signs. Now I’ll sign off.
