Become involved with the future of your local hospitals
How our local hospitals in mid and south Essex are managed is changing as plans are finalised for the hospitals at Broomfield (which covers Maldon and Braintree too), Basildon and Southend to join together in a new Foundation Trust. Nick Alston, the Chairman of Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust (MEHT) recently invited all parish and town councils in mid Essex to send a representative to a meeting at Broomfield hospital to invite local councils to encourage all residents in mid-Essex to sign up as ‘Members’ of the MEHT. Within months it is likely that all Members of the Trust will be invited to elect, from its members, Governors of the new Trust.
Basildon and Southend Hospitals, which are both Foundation Trusts, currently each have more than 10000 members from whom Governors have been elected. Being a Governor is an unpaid, but rewarding role as the Governors influence the strategic direction of the Hospitals. You can read more here
MEHT does not have Governors as it remains an ‘NHS Trust’. If the merger of the three hospitals goes ahead, as the Board at Broomfield hopes will happen, a new Foundation Trust covering all three hospitals will be formed. It will be important for mid Essex residents to be represented and so we are all being encouraged to join now as a ‘Member’ of MEHT. You can read more here and if you want to register interest in becoming a member please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Until Governors are elected, Nick Alston has invited representatives from each parish and town council to attend further meetings at the hospital to hear about and discuss the forthcoming changes. If you have views about these changes do please join as a member of MEHT, consider standing as a Governor when the time comes, and until then do let any of your local councillors know you views or let Nick Alston know directly email at email@example.com
