St Barnabas Church in Mayland celebrated it’s 150th Year in 2017. The friends of St Barnabas held a flower show on the weekend of 10th and 11th June and what a weekend it was. Beautiful weather, lots of people and a wonderful atmosphere. This was just one of the events held over the years to help pay for the upkeep of the Church.
CHURCH ROOF REPLACEMENT UPDATE (May 2018)
Thankfully, a sufficient fund of approximately £27,000 is now in place for replacing the church roof. It has taken some 35 years to raise this money mainly due to volunteers and the generous support from the people of the Mayland’s. This has been achieved by running quizzes, bazaars and flower festivals and also a generous grant of £5,000 from the Friends of Essex Churches.
The final administration process began over 18 months ago when three contractor’s estimates, ranging from £26,000 to £34,000, were obtained.
The Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) in Chelmsford has approved the plan and the contractor is ready to start.
However, the last hurdle is a Faculty approval by the Chelmsford Diocesan Registrar and the Chancellor in London. This final approval is a “legal” requirement that will authorise us to begin the work.
