Event's date : Sun 22nd July 2018
Location : Stow Maries

Flying High!

Stow Maries At War Celebrates the Barnstorming Aviators of the Bygone Age.

On Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd July, Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome will celebrate Stow Maries at War, an event dedicated to living-history, plus an air display that will see the famous and beloved BE-2e take to the skies.

Stow at War will focus on the Great War and the British Armed Forces in all its glory, with the aerodrome bustling with living historians, showing the uniforms, weaponry, equipment and training of the Great War soldier and airmen, as well as authentic historical camps.

To compliment the day, a flying display will take place exhibiting aircraft from the golden age of aviation; from the Miles Magister two seater monoplane, to the fabulous Stampe formation display team, who represent classical barnstorming aviation. Visitors will enjoy the French single seat reproduction of the Nieuport 17 and the return of the venerable home defence fighter and longest serving functional aircraft of the first world war, – the BE-2e, courtesy of WW1 Aviation Heritage Trust.

An exhibition by award winning First World War aviation artist, Graham Turner, will be held in the Dope Room plus the The Great War Society, 10th Essex Regiment and The Royal Navy Bluejacket living history groups will be on site. A genuine Blacksmith will also take up residence for the day on Sunday.

During both days, the site will be offering Flight Line Tours, a BBQ, Bar and Ice Creams, plus The Mess will be in full swing. All air displays will take place weather permitting.
Chief Executive of Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome, Ian Flint said: “After the success of last year, we are delighted to see Stow at War return to the events calendar for 2018. This event really does attract the cream of historical interpretation on a national level and creates a fun and informative day for the young and old. It will also be a delight for the aerodrome to be active once again with these magnificent flying machines.”

Tickets are priced at £15 per adult, free for under 16s. They are only available in advance at www.stowmaries.org.uk/events

Stow Maries Great War aerodrome is open to the public every day except Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Pre-arranged group visits, including coach trips, are welcome.
